A Celebration of Burundian Life in Atlanta event flyer

When: Saturday November 08, 2008.
Location: Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave., Clarkston, GA 30021.

Olevi has partnered with the Association of Burundians and friends of Burundi of Atlanta, the Clarkston Community Center, and Refugee Family Services to bring the Metro-Atlanta community a Celebration of Burundian Life in Atlanta. The event will highlight the plight of nearly 2,500 resettled Burundian refugees in Atlanta who are largely illiterate and unable to communicate in English, gain further education or better jobs.

By the end of 2009, the US government plans to have resettled nearly 9000 Burundi refugees from Tanzania to the U.S. Most of these refugees will be resettled here in Atlanta. Unfortunately, many of them are illiterate and unable to speak or write English. The association is planning to expand its services into teaching English and computer classes in hopes of helping the refugees become better participants in their adopted communities.

The event will feature the famous Burundian Dancers and Drummers of Atlanta (www.burundidrummers.com), traditional Burundian women dancers, an art exhibit by Olevi Art & Culture, and contemporary Burundian get-together food.

When: Saturday November 08, 2008.

Location: Clarkston Community Center, 3701 College Ave., Clarkston, GA 30021.
